Prayers Commonly Said At Providence Girls' Catholic School

Morning Offering

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, the reparation for sin, and the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all Apostles of Prayer, and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month

Student's Prayer: St. Thomas Aquinas

Creator of all things, true source of light and wisdom, origin of all being, graciously let a ray of light penetrate the darkness of my understanding. Take from me the double darkness in which I have been born, an obscurity of sin and ignorance. Give me a keen understanding, a retentive memory, and the ability to grasp things correctly and fundamentally. Grant me the talent of being exact in my explanations and the ability to express myself with thoroughness and charm. Point out the beginning, direct the progress, and help in the completion. I ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer to St. Michael

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in this day of battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God restrain him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell  Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world    seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Prayer to Our Guardian Angel

O angel of God, my guardian dear

To whom God’s love commits me here

Ever this day be at my side

To light and guide. Amen.

Prayer to Blessed Anne Marie Javouhey

O Blessed Anne Marie Javouhey, whose heart beat only for God and for souls, teach us to love as you loved, to pray as you prayed, to suffer and to pardon, to give ourselves as you did. Obtain for us a heart like yours, loving intensely God’s Holy Will, believing in his love in everything, a heart strong and kind, ardent and pure, loyal and faithful, humble and confiding,  heart ready for every sacrifice, a heart like to the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Amen.

HYMN TO OUR LADY OF DIVINE PROVIDENCE

Hail to thee, O Lady of Providence
Queen and Mother, hear our prayer.
Bless us, guard us, ever keep us
In thy Providential care.

Chorus
Our Lady of Providence, pray for us
Our Lady of Providence, pray for us
Queen of the home, O pray for us.

Bless our homes, O Lady of Providence

Guide our loved ones, though they roam

At the throne of God unite us

Queen of mothers, Queen of homes

Smile on us, O Lady of Providence,
Win our hearts from earthly charms;
Mother, draw us near to Jesus,
As He nestles in thy arms.

SCHOOL SONG

To verdant Belmont hills we come

from places far and near.

Our school is great we know

but some prefer to call it dear.

And lest you do not know our name,

or guess our lofty aim,

we’ll sing of Providence,

dear old Providence,

Providence Girls’ Hurrah!

We love our school, its every rule

we honour and respect.

Our readiness to do our best

is easy to detect.

Then listen to our thrilling song,

it will not take you long.

We’ll sing of Providence,

dear old Providence,

Providence Girls’ Hurrah!

How happy are the days we spend

on playground and in class.

We know that all must have an end,

an end to all alas.

But great is the love our true hearts feel

when we do kneel and pray

for loved old Providence,

grand old Providence,

Providence Girls’ Hurrah!
